There is no doubt in the fact that knowing what rival teams are doing and what are they up for is extremely important for all the F1 teams. However, the fact of the matter is adapting all activities and considering all stances of rival teams is not a great strategy at all. Is Mercedes Lacking Some Top Drivers?

Certainly, if there is one team that does not even bother about what rival teams are doing, then it is Mercedes. We can see from the start of pre-season testing 2020 that Mercedes is focusing on its own performance. It is the only team that is focusing more and more on increasing and enhancing its potential instead of following rival teams. You might not believe but it is a fact that Mercedes has not even bothered the fact that Verstappen and Leclerc have signed new and long term deals with rival teams that are Red Bull and Ferrari.

There is no doubt in the fact that George Russell is a junior driver of Mercedes and he will drive for the team as a lead in the future. The current statistics and logistics show that George Russell has a bright and powerful future in F1. Thus, Mercedes has a great asset in the form of George Russell which would make this team last longer in the F1 competitions and races.

They will not run out of talent in the future:

Mercedes thinks that instead of hiring expert and experienced F1 drivers and signing long-term contracts with them; training and tuning new and talented drivers is a more suitable option. Hence, Mercedes thinks that it would never ever run out of efficient and capable drivers in the future and its future and bright and strong like the present in F1.

We all would agree with the fact that the efficiency and expertise of the F1 driver are extremely important in determining the success of F1 races and competitions. However, the fact of the matter is that along with the performance and expertise of drivers, engine and pace of the F1 car is also very important. You can consider the example of Ferrari that failed to achieve its goal in the initial pre-season testing rounds because of its pace and reliability issues.
Apparently, Mercedes thinks that there is no need to worry about the lack of top and experienced as well as exceptional young F1 drivers. This team thinks that its engine and pace are perfect and have the capability to stand out among others in the final rounds of the F1 championship.
