Scheduled to be held from April 17 to April 19, the 2020 Chinese GP has been postponed due to coronavirus scare.
Juss Sports Group, the Chinese GP promoter, discussed with the FIA and other organizers before concluding the event cannot go ahead as planned because of the coronavirus outbreak. The health of the fans and all those involved with F1 comes first which is why it was the best decision to make.
World Health Organization has declared the coronavirus as a global health emergency. That means we could be seeing more races postponed in the future. A future date for the return of the GP to China could only be decided on once the health concerns diminish around the globe. For now, the situation does not look too good.
Chinese GP Postponed, not Cancelled
The Chinese Grand Prix has always been a venue to look forward to every year. However, because of the outbreak, plans have shifted from the normal. Furthermore, the virus is known to be deadly. It is claiming lives, transferring from one person to another. Doctors are still at the earliest stages of making a vaccine available. If a vaccine is not found within 6 months, there is a very high chance of the whole F1 season going without a single race.
To keep all the options open, the organizers have opted against canceling the race altogether. They are trying to find a way to bring the F1 action back as soon as possible on the schedule. However, for that to happen, they first need to make room for the race to take place somehow in the current schedule.
